At this year's 34th international scientific conference Agrarian perspectives, organized on September 10-11, 2025 by the Faculty of Business Economics of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, a European research project was presented CODECS (maximising the CO-benefits of agricultural Digitalisation through conducive digital ECoSystems). This four-year project, funded by Horizon Europe, explores how digital technologies can contribute to the sustainable development of European agriculture and how conducive digital ecosystems can be created to accelerate their adoption in practice.

Within the section Digitization and Precision Agriculture The participants were informed about the results of the project so far. The PEF ČZL research team presented:

  • first analyses of digital ecosystems and their impact on agricultural businesses,
  • a framework for assessing the costs and benefits of digitalization in different types of agriculture,
  • examples of demonstration activities that test the use of digital tools in practice and explore their impacts on sustainability, efficiency and competitiveness.

These results contribute to a better understanding of how digitalization is affecting the agricultural sector, while providing evidence-based policymaking.

Shared synergies with other projects

The conference created a space for mutual connection of projects focused on digitalization and innovation in agriculture. In addition to CODECS, projects such as GRANULARRURBANIVEBrightSpaceAGRITECH EU whose SmartSkills.

It was this confrontation and joint discussion that showed the importance synergies between projects:

  • Methodological synergy – sharing procedures for analyzing and evaluating the impacts of digital technologies in different regions,
  • Participatory approaches – inspiration between projects in involving farmers, advisors, researchers and public administration in the joint evaluation of digital solutions,
  • Political implications – linking project results into practical recommendations for European and national policies in the field of digitalization and sustainable agriculture.

These synergies create an environment where the results of individual projects strengthen their impact and offer a comprehensive view of the future of digital agriculture in Europe.

The presentation of the CODECS project at the Agrarian Perspectives conference confirmed the role of CULS as a significant partner in the field of digitalization and innovation in agriculture. Through its involvement in this and other international projects, the faculty actively participates in the creation of knowledge that supports sustainable development and increases the competitiveness of European agriculture.
