On July 17-22, 2017, the first year of the summer workshop on "Continuity of Operations: Threats, Technology and Trade" took place in the premises of the Operations Economics Faculty of PEF ČZU in Prague. A group of seven students led by Professor Akshay Pottathila from partner university San Diego State University participated in the five-day workshop. The program included lectures and discussion panels with a carefully selected composition of experts and lecturers on topics such as economics, diplomacy, software design and usability testing, international taxation and auditing, information systems security, IT project management and e-governance.
The workshop and the accompanying program were organized by the Foreign Department of PEF CZU. The team of lecturers was represented by: Ing. Miloš Ulman, Ph.D. and Ing. Martin Havránek, Ph.D from the Department of Information Technologies, Ing. Josef Pavlíček, Ph.D. from the Department of Information Engineering, Ing. Lukáš Moravec, Ph.D. from the Department of Business and Finance and PhDr. Vlastimil Černý, CSc., head of the PEF Foreign Department. Leslie M. Alexander, former ambassador of the United States, Mgr. Simona Hornochová, tax advisor and former deputy minister of finance, Ing. M.Sc. Milan Šarapatka, Ph.D., Member of Parliament of the Czech Republic and Ing. Juraj Piš, IT project manager at La Lorraine Bakery Group NV.
The participants also visited the premises and production hall of Foxconn CZ, which is a leading manufacturer of HP servers, startup accelerator StartupYard and the Parliament of the Czech Republic. During the excursions, the participants gained a broader insight into the political-economic ecosystem of the Czech Republic and its links abroad.
The summer workshop was one of the results of the ongoing collaboration between the Center for Information Convergence and Strategy (CICS) at San Diego State University and the Faculty of Business Economics at CZU in Prague.
