GRANULAR
Date: 1. 10. 2022 – 30. 9. 2026
Project description
The GRANULAR project responds to demographic, climatic, economic and social changes in rural areas of Europe. It highlights the fact that traditional definitions of rural areas based on density or population size fail to adequately capture their diversity and relationships with urban areas.
The project uses interdisciplinary research and collaboration between various actors. New data will be generated through remote sensing, crowdsourcing, mobile device data, and web data mining.
This data will be combined with existing statistical and institutional sources to produce indicators that will allow assessing the resilience, living conditions, quality of life and attractiveness of rural areas.
This includes the creation of decision-support tools, including a rural compass, and a platform for sharing datasets and visualizations.
Financing
Horizon Europe, grant no. 101061068. The project also reports support from British participants from UKRI.
