KIT representatives attended the final conference of the CODECS project in Brussels
The final conference of the European project CODECS, focused on the digitalization of agriculture and its economic, environmental and social impacts, took place in Brussels on 15–16 September 2026. The conference was held at the Fondation Universitaire and was attended by more than 120 representatives of European institutions, research organizations, agricultural advisors, technology companies and individual Living Labs.
The Department of Information Technology of the Faculty of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Czech University of Life Sciences was represented at the conference by Assoc. Prof. Ing. Pavel Šimek, Ph.D. and Ing. Eva Kánská, Ph.D. , who have long been involved in the activities of the CODECS project and in solving the problems of digitalization and the use of modern technologies in agriculture.
The first day of the conference was dedicated primarily to research results and experiences from individual European Living Labs. Discussions focused on connecting sensors, satellite data, data platforms and other digital technologies with the real needs of agricultural enterprises. Significant attention was also paid to the economic, social and environmental impacts of digitalization and the conditions that influence the successful implementation of digital solutions in practice.
The second day focused on the transfer of research results into European policies and on creating the right conditions for the sustainable and inclusive digitalisation of agriculture . The future European research and agricultural policy, the use of artificial intelligence, data management, support for regional strategies and the need for an open and interoperable digital infrastructure were discussed.
The final conference capped four years of collaborative research by the CODECS project. One of the project's main conclusions is that the benefits of digital innovations are not only determined by the technologies themselves, but also by the people, agricultural systems, institutional environments and policies that influence how they are used.
The participation of KIT representatives at the final conference followed the long-term involvement of the institution in the CODECS project and in activities focused on the practical use of digital technologies, data, and principles of precision agriculture.
