Optional subjects

The Department offers students a number of subjects that are beyond the curriculum and can be taken as an addition to mandatory subjects.

Important: Optional subjects are available in Czech language only.

Entry procedure

Selected subjects will be written into the index and will appear in an official document of completed subjects as a Student Diploma Supplement. Each student has an obligation to complete any subjects once they were written into the index. 

One can enroll for subjects from other disciplines than those that correspond with the study plan - see brochure Study plans: "Except for the first semester of the first year, students choose other recommended elective courses in their field or from other disciplines. Beyond this mandatory study plan the student may choose other courses available at FEM or other faculties and departments of CULS. These selected subjects become part of the curriculum of the student. "

Social media (ETE68E)

The course is designed primarily for students of economic and managerial disciplines (business and administration, operations and economics). It responds to the ever-evolving demands for graduates in the field of modern technologies and focuses on the dynamic field of social media and social networking in a broader context. A similar subject is not currently taught anywhere else at CULS and skills acquired while attending this course can be applied to many jobs. The aim is to develop the knowledge of students and prepare them for effective use of social media in information and communication technologies with an emphasis on management and marketing. The course creates conditions for the effective use of social media and related technologies in the related technical courses focusing on business practices. It helps to increase competitiveness in the labor market.

MS Excel – advanced techniques (ETE67E)

The basis of management is the efficient processing of data that can be achieved using a variety of techniques and tools. The most commonly used tool in the private and public sectors is Microsoft Excel, which provides technology and programming tools for advanced users - macros. Graduates of the course will get an overview about the possibilities of programming in MS Office and will be able to use it for complex data processing and increase their overall efectiveness in data processing. The requirements of companies on this knowledge and competitiveness in the labor market is increasing dramatically. A similar subject is not currently taught anywhere else at CULS, skills acquired while attending this course can be applied to many jobs. Elective course builds on the subjects in the first year of ICT (information and communication technologies, Internet technologies) and extends the knowledge and skills in the field of tools for advanced data processing in the most widely used software package MS Office, particularly MS Excel using a programming tool - macros.

Participants of this subject will receive a certification.

Mobile application development - Android (ETE66E)

Year: 3rd | Study programme: Informatics | Semester: winter | (other students can apply after consultation) | Compendium

Předmět se zabývá programováním aplikací pro operační systém Android od úplných začátků. Vyučuje se vývojové prostředí Android Studio a programovací jazyk JAVA. Dále je výuka podpořena přednáškami odborníků z praxe a exkurzemi do firem. 
Doporučujeme alespoň základní znalosti programování, nejlépe objektového.

The subject deals with programming of applications for the Android operating system from the very basics. Students learn to work in the Android Studio development environment and to use Java programming language. Further instruction is supported by lectures of practitioners and field trips to companies.


We recommend at least a basic knowledge of programming, experience with any object-oriented programming language is the most fitting.

Participants of this subject will receive a certification.

Computer graphics (ETE65E)

Absolventi získají teoretické i praktické znalosti v oblasti práce s grafickými formáty, úpravou fotografií a tvorbou moderního grafického designu webových stránek. Znalosti se týkají nejnovějších poznatků v oboru počítačové grafiky a designu. Rozumějí principům tvorby grafiky, ovládají dobře grafické editory Adobe Photoshop a Adobe Illustrator. Mají jasnou povědomost o hranicích svých znalostí a představu o obsahu dalšího studia v tomto oboru vědění. Získané znalosti mohou využít pro získání příslušného certifikátu ECDL. 

Graduates gain theoretical and practical knowledge of work with graphic formats, editing photos and creating modern graphic design websites. The course focuses on the latest developments in the field of computer graphics and design. Students will be able to understand the principles of creation of graphics, and learn to fluently use graphic editors Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Acquired knowledge can be used to obtain the corresponding ECDL certification.
